Here's your chance to help bring better beer to Mississippi with Senate Bill 2851!

There is a bill in the Senate Finance Committee now that would raise Mississippi's legal alcohol by weight limit on beer from 5% to 17%. Please help get this bill passed into law by calling, writing and emailing the members of the finance committee. Their contact information will follow below. Tell them you support Senate Bill 2851. This law will not change any of the current beers available in Mississippi and it will not affect dry counties in the state. It is simply designed to give Mississippians already in wet counties, access to more beers- some of the best craft and gourmet-style beers in the world. It is also a chance for Mississippi to increase tax revenues during a tight budget year without raising taxes. Thank you for your support.

You can view the bill here:
http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/documents/2008/pdf/SB/2800-2899/SB2851IN.pdf

And follow the status here:

I'm not sure how many SBS members are Mississippians that are not already involved with MEBA, but if you are from Mississippi and are not- get involved. Spread the word to friends and family, restaurant and bar owners, grocery store owners, etc. It is going to take the support of the benefactors (you, me, and all beer nerds in MS) to give this thing some traction in the Legislature.

So, make note of the names that Craig (MSBrew) sent earlier and fire up the e-mail machine and let them know (politely and professionally) that you would like for them to support this bill.

Prost!

Should we stick with our regional rep or send a message to them all?

You can contact each memeber of the Committee, regardless of where you reside in Mississippi. The Committee controls which bills assigned to them get to the floor, so whether or not you are a constiuent of one of the committee members doesn't matter.

If everybody on this forum from Mississippi would e-mail each member of the committee, that would be powerful- assuming that it's more than just you and me barefoot

I have attached "MEBA approved" Official Talking Points...

Prost!
